Luise Volkmann

About

Luise Volkmann /b. 1992/ is a musician and sound composer based in Cologne, Germany. Her favorite tool is the saxophone. Her project ranges from trying to make the world a better place, i.e. initiating festivals, collectives, and reading philosophy, to simply devoting herself to the numerous bands she has brought and brings to life. She wished Germany could be a little bit more like Brazil sometimes. That´s why she was living in Natal (BR), Paris (FR) and Copenhagen (DK) and tours a lot.

Volkmann moves in the interplay of different contemporary styles of music. Thereby she is interested in the transforming potential of jazz. She completed her studies in jazz saxophone, composition and musicology in Leipzig, Paris and Cologne. Volkmann is active as a bandleader of various large and small ensembles, but is also in demand as a soloist. She has played at renowned festivals and jazz clubs across Europe over the past decade, with excursions into pop, contemporary and world music. As a composer, she not only writes the music of her own ensembles (Été Large, LEONEsauvage, Autochrom, 3grams, and many more), but also regularly produces commissioned compositions for ensembles and festivals, such as the Podium Festival Esslingen. Her compositions have also been published by Edition Leduc and Edition Peters.
